The Ashtanga Trishtana: Integrating Asana, Breath/Bandha, and Drishti for lifelong stability and purification.
Its easy to say Ashtanga is all about these three points of attention: posture, breath, and gaze- but what does that really imply? How can we use this practice to purify the body, nerves, and mind? We will inquire into a bit of yoga’s Sankhya philosophy as applied to daily practice, do some bandha research, and move through a practice with the intention to understand and experience how the Trishtana works.

Introduction to Ayurveda
Ayurveda, India’s ancient healing system uses diet, lifestyle rhythms, and natural herbs and oils to promote a state of mind/body well-being.  The system follows nature’s rhythms- seasonal changes, sunrise to sunset, phases of life, etc. to maintain optimal health.  Through eating and living in accordance with these natural rhythms, human beings find happiness.  This session introduces key concepts of the Ayurvedic view of the body, the Pancha Mahabhutas (the five elements) and the three Doshas, functional biological compounds, how they affect us, and how to recognize them in your body.

Nadi Shodhana: Intermediate postures, bandha, and Pranayama
Once you get into backbending, inversions, and breathwork, you are moving beyond the physical body and into the energetic aspects of your system (well, this is happening in any yoga practice, but now it amps up). Knowledge of the anatomy of the subtle body, its pathways, patterns, and pitfalls can be a great help in maintaining a safe and beneficial practice for the whole life. Through discussion and practice we will explore how to best advance in yoga.

Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle for Yogis
Ayurvedic daily rhythms and food choices can support householder and yogi alike. Specific foods are revered in Ayurveda for promoting strength and sustainability (brmhana), as well as cleansing and lightness (langhana). Understand the difference between the two, and when and how to use these foods.
